Car Nicobar, Mar 03: The District Level Committee meeting of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) was held under the Chairmanship of Ms. Jyoti Kumari, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Nicobar District on Feb. 28, aimed to enhance significant development in the Fisheries sector. The Committee selected 36 beneficiaries from the District for various subsidy programs like construction of a new grow out pond for freshwater and brackish water fish culture, two wheeler with Ice box.
During the meeting, the committee also recommended the release of subsidies to 19 beneficiaries who have purchased their assets under various components of PMMSY in Nicobar District. Purchasing these assets by the beneficiaries would indeed lead to boost income and create opportunities for local employment by ensuring that the benefits of these assets directly support the community or individual involved. This approach can contribute to economic development and sustainability in the local area.
To implement the PMMSY programme successfully among local communities, regular awareness camps are being conducted for which services of Sagar Mitras are essential. They play a pivotal role in educating people and community about the benefit and objective of PMMSY as well as in addressing any concerns or queries about the programme. Therefore, to ensure continued support for initiative under PMMSY, the services of Sagar Mitras was also extended.
This meeting marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the flagship programme initiated by the Prime Minister in Nicobar District. It demonstrates the programme’s objectives, empowering the local communities and promoting sustainable development in the Fisheries sector.
