Port Blair, Mar 03: In an innovative step towards revitalising urban spaces, the once open dump yard at Middle Point, marred by illegal activities and unsightly waste heaps, has undergone a remarkable transformation into a tranquil INFO‘Rmative Point at Middle Point. Today marked the inauguration of this transformative initiative by Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, Chief Secretary, A & N Administration, witnessing the evolution of an eyesore into a rejuvenating space for locals and visitors alike. Mr. Dilkhush Meena, IAS, Secretary, PBMC, Mr. Abhishek Bhukal, Joint Secretary, PBMC, Mr. Azizur Rehaman, Ward Councillor and other officials of the Council were present during the occasion.
The transformed site features crucial contact information such as the Control Room numbers of PBMC, Police, Fire Service, Blood Bank, Ambulance, Shipping and Disaster Management.
As part of the commitment to disseminate information, PBMC plans to distribute pamphlets at the nearby bus stop, encouraging the public to keep the city clean and use resources judiciously. The bus stop itself has undergone a vibrant makeover, reflecting the artistic ingenuity of the team involved. The cleanup process involved the disposal of waste and the innovative repurposing of materials, resulting in the installation of recycled wooden planks, benches, flower pots and revamped bus stands. This not only addressed waste management challenges but also elevated the visual appeal of the area, creating a sustainable and aesthetically pleasing environment.
The transformation of this area was arranged by the diligent efforts of the Works, Electrical and Sanitation Wing of the Council, in collaboration with a dedicated 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) team. This committed group showcased their artistic ingenuity by converting waste materials into appealing creations, effectively shifting the landscape from garbage laden to verdant greenery. Municipal Council’s pivotal role in this makeover has not only tackled waste management challenges but also elevated the area’s visual allure, raising a sustainable and aesthetically pleasing environment and disseminating information. The evolution from Garbage Vulnerable Points to INFO‘Rmative Point is a shining example of sustainable urban transformation, showcasing a pleasant blend of nature and innovative solutions.
The Secretary, PBMC appeals to all the citizens of Port Blair to join hands towards a collective endeavour for a Cleaner and Greener Port Blair. Let’s join hands to make a positive impact on our community and environment.
