Port Blair, Jan 24: Beti Bachao Beti Padao(BBBP), a flagship initiative of Government of India, was launched in 2015 with the objectives to prevent gender-based sex selective elimination, to ensure the survival and protection of the girl child and enable improved education outcomes for the girl child. In order to promote valuing the girl child and to emphasize the importance of girl child, National Girl Child Day (NGCD) is celebrated on 24 January every year.
To make this event a Jan Bhagidari, ICDS(Urban Project) organized activities valuing the girl child from 19th to 24th January, 2024.As part of this initiatives, various events viz. BBBP oath taking ceremony, pledge ceremony, sports activity, programme in schools(Slogan-Writing/Drawing competition) organizing workshops on menstrual hygiene and distribution of hygiene kits was held at various AWCs.
In a Valedictory function held at Balika Niketan on 24th January 2024, Mrs. Zarina Bibi, CDPO (ICDS Urban Project), welcomed the gathering. The Chief Guest Ms. Techa shared her experience and achievements. Mr. Abdul Razaak, President Hope Foundation emphasized on the importance and the implementation of BBBP. Ms. Techa was felicitated as district level ambassador and certificate of appointment as Goodwill ambassador of BBBP from 24/01/2024 was given. During the function cultural programme was also featured by inmates of Balika Niketan followed by prize distribution to the winners of various competitions. The vote of thanks was given by Mrs. Sheela Kar, Mukhya Sevika (Ferrargunj Project) The Programme was also attended by Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director Social Welfare, Mr. PC James, Programme Officer ICDS, CDPO Urban & Ferrargunj Project and staffs of ICDS Urban Project & Ferrargunj Project & Poshan Staff.
