Port Blair, Feb 5: Left & Democratic Front, A & N Islands has decided to submit a Memorandum to the Govt, of India, on the important public issues like Establishment of Assembly for Andaman & Nicobar Islands by ending ‘One Man Rule’ of Lieutenant Governor, Increasing prices of essential commodities of vegetables & increase in supply of subsidized Gas cylinder, Closure of ATR for Tourism & Buffer Zone, Curtailment of water supply, Power Cut, Immediate Regularization of Daily Rated Mazdoors who have completed 10 years or more, Minimum wages of Rs.10,000/- for DRM, Proposed Yachat Marina Hotel Project at Viper Island should be scraped and Viper Island should be declared as National Monument, the cash transfer scheme to Bank in lieu of ration articles through PDS should be scrapped. This was decided in a meeting held at the Auditorium of ‘Shaheed Bhavan’ -Anarkali on 3rd February, 2013.
It was also decided that ‘One Day Dharna’ will be conducted in support of the demands and LDF will also support the country wide general strike on 20th & 21st February 2013 called by the Central Trade Unions.
The members of the Left & Democratic Front, A & N Islands has also condemned the press report published in The Daily Telegrams about political parties misleading the Andaman & Nicobar Tourist Vehicle Drivers Welfare Unions who were in ‘Dharna’ on 30.01.2013 demanding reopening of ATR for tourism.
It was also decided by LDF that they will also submit memorandum to the Lt. Governor on this issue along with Member of Parliament, and other leaders of BJP, DMK, RJD, T.D.R, L.J.P, C.P.I (M) and many others as the union appealed in writing to all the political parties to extend support for their cause.
LDF also informed that the police intercepted procession with the political leaders and members of the union went to Raj Niwas while other members continued the Dharna on road but Lt. Governor refused to meet the Member of Parliament and other political leaders and pressurized the union to meet him alone. Andaman & Nicobar Tourist Vehicle Drivers Welfare Unions rejected the proposal of Lt. Governor in front of the entire rally and the police but next day again Senior Police officials called the president of the Union and pressurized him to meet the Lt Governor. Therefore LDF claimed that the report of Political Parties misleading the Union is false, a communication from LDF said.
