Port Blair, Aug 25: CPI (M) has demanded immediate action to put an end to the indiscriminate power disruption noticed in the areas from Wimberlygunj to Shoalbay 19. In a letter sent to the Superintending Engineer, Electricity Department, D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI (M) A & N State Organising Committee drew the attention of the Electricity Department to the continuous power disruption at the above areas. He said that as per the report received by the Party, power disruption in the above areas is a common feature, causing unexplainable difficulties to the residents of the areas. While residents of Port Blair town and other parts of the rural South Andaman experience the power cut for 6 hours to 8 hours daily, the residents of the above areas experience 10 hours to 14 hours power disruption daily.
Ayyappan told the Superintending Engineer that students are the worst affected section who is unable to concentrate on their studies due to power cuts day and night. He stated in the letter that people are of the opinion that the Electricity Department has neglected their area. There is widespread anger and discontentment among the thousands of people living in the above areas. He told the Superintending Engineer that the officials of the Electricity Department are unable to explain the reason for the power disruption for such a long duration daily in the above-said area.
CPI (M) Secretary requested the Superintending Engineer to look into this matter personally and take appropriate steps failing which CPI (M) will launch agitations in front of the Electricity site offices at the above areas.
