Port Blair, Jan 10: A & N State Cooperative Bank Ltd. has organized its 8th function at CEEP’s Dawat Mahal, Wimberligunj on distribution of Cooperative Cards for Door Delivery of Pensions to Old Age, Widow & Handicapped Persons on 10th January,2013in presence of dignitaries from Govt. Departments, PRI Members, Eminent leaders, Villagers, Senior Citizens, SHG members, and Media persons etc.
While welcoming the Chief Guest Mr. Anand Prakash, Chief Secretary, AN Administration, other dignitaries and gatherings, Mr. Ravinder Rao, Managing Director of ANS Cooperative Bank has briefed the activities of the Bank which started as a small bank in 1965 with a deposit of 85,000/- and now became a large bank with a deposit of about 600 crores, 29 branches all over Islands. “Out of total 29 branches, 5 are working in south Andaman, 9 in North and Middle Andaman and 4 in Nicobar District.”Mr. Rao said. On the issue of introducing door to door delivery of pension to old age, widowed and disabled persons, Mr. Rao has informed that this is the brain child of the Vice Chairman of the Bank Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, duly supported by the Chairman Mr. Bhagat Singh who felt the pain of these beneficiaries of their coming to Bank for getting monthly pension in many ways.
While other Banks are charging for issuing such smart cards, the ANS Cooperative Bank is issuing it free to the beneficiaries as the Board of Directors felt that this will not be fare to charge for the cards from these hapless personnel’s. Mr. Rao has also informed the gathering that the Chairman and Vice Chairman has a proposal to organise Cooperative Fare at ITF ground during January, 2013 where the Self Help Group may display their products. This will not only give them a wide publicity of their products at National/ International level but their sale may also be increased.
The Chief Guest in his speech has whole heartedly praised the efforts of the Bank to the service of the Islands and also to the helpless people. Defining it as a “Noble deed”, the Chief Secretary has stated that he felt himself very happy to be a part of this programme and distributed the cards to the beneficiaries. The General Manager Mr. S Athirstavel, NABARD, Senior Citizen Mrs Shanta Laxman Singh and Ms VK Mariam Bibi, Member Zilla Parishad have also, in their brief speech, praised the activities of the Bank.Shri Thomas Daniel, Dy General Manager, proposed vote of thanks. Among others, Mr. Bhagat Singh, Chairman and Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Vice Chairman of the Bank, Mr. RK Tiwary, Reg Manager, SBI and AP Mohammed, Social worker were also present in the function.
