
Port Blair, July 27: The 89th half-yearly meeting of Town Official Language Implementation Committee, Port Blair was held today in the Conference Hall of Secretariat. Presiding over the meeting, the Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Shri Keshav Chandra, IAS stated that Andaman and Nicobar Islands come under the Region “A” under the Official Language Rules, 1976 and hence, it is imperative for all the offices working in this region to dispose their 100 percent official works in Hindi. He urged all the Head of Offices to pay special attention to ensure complete compliance of Section 3(3) of the Official Language Act 1963 and Rule 5 of the Official Language Rules, 1976. He further said that various new techniques are now available in the field of Official Language and one can easily carry out official works in Hindi with the use of such techniques. Hence, he instructed all the Head of Offices to organize trainings regularly so that their employees can acquaint themselves with the new techniques, to carry out their day to day Official works in Hindi.
At the beginning of the meeting, Secretary (Official Language) Shri Anil Agarwal welcomed the gathering and gave a brief description about the Town Official Language Implementation Committee. Special Secretary (Official Language) Shri Manoj Kumar Dwivedi proposed the vote of thanks to the Chief Secretary and other Officials. Shri Rajendra Indwar, Deputy Secretary (Official Language) gave a PowerPoint presentation on the status of implementation of Official Language in various Central Government Offices.
During the meeting, Rajbhasha Shields for the years 2022-23 were awarded to the best performing offices for excelling in implementation of Official Language Policy. Andaman Lakshadweep Harbour Works, National Statistical Office and Coast Guard Headquarters were awarded with the first, second and third prizes respectively. Directorate of Census Operations and the Central Industrial Security Force, VSI Airport were awarded with the consolation prizes. A special Rajbhasha Shield was also awarded to the Directorate of Lighthouses & Lightships for their continuous exceptional performance in the implementation of Official Language Policy.
