Port Blair, Jan 07: A major fire broke out at ‘Wood Craft’ a Small Scale Industry unit, inside industrial estate of Bathu Basti around 7.20 pm today. Luckily, no casualty was reported immediately. The cause of the fire was not known immediately.
According to the Fire Services, they had received intimation on 7.28 pm. and immediately a fire tender from the nearest fire service reached the spot to douse the fire but they couldn’t do so. Later, Fire tenders from Aberdeen, Chatham, and Marine reached the spot.
However, it took more than one hour for them to bring the fire under control.
People present on the spot alleged that the Fire Service unit worked too slow which caused major damage to the Small Scale Industry Unit.
“They worked in totally unprofessional way. The fire tenders ran out of water frequently,” alleged a person standing there.
However, sources in Fire Services told Andaman Sheekha that due to lack of proper space inside the Industrial Estate, they faced difficulty in fighting the fire.
