Port Blair, June 26: The Andaman Nicobar Territorial Congress Committee President Mr. Rangalal Halder has demanded the Administration for initiating passenger ship service from Port Blair to Kolkata with three scheduled trips monthly.
In a letter addressed to the Director, DSS, A & N Administration, Mr. Halder said that the transportation options for traveling between Port Blair and Kolkata are limited, resulting in inconvenience and higher costs for travelers.
He stated that the passenger ship service between these two cities would improve accessibility for individuals who prefer sea travel or have concerns regarding air travel and would open up opportunities for a wider range of travelers, including tourists, families, elderly individuals, and those with specific health conditions.
He mentioned that “the lack of adequate transportation options poses a significant challenge for the patients of Andaman & Nicobar Islands to ensure timely and efficient facilities. The Poor patient’s coming from lower Income groups cannot afford the cost of Air Transportation requires regular scheduled Ship service with affordable prices”.
He added that “Port Blair and Kolkata have significant trade ties, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, and manufacturing. A reliable and efficient cargo ship service would also facilitate business-related travel, leading to enhanced trade opportunities and economic growth for both the cities”.
Furthermore, Mr. Halder has suggested the beginning of three times monthly passenger ship service to bridge this gap and provide a reliable, cost-effective, and comfortable mode of transportation for individuals traveling between these two cities.
