Port Blair, June 25: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Mr. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to arrange a daily vessel sailing from Port Blair to Barren Island once Tourist Season starts in A & N Islands.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary the Member of Parliament mentioned that observing an active volcano is an exhilarating and awe-inspiring experience for every individual from all walks of life.
With the upcoming tourist season and the inherent attraction value of an active volcano, he requested the Chief Secretary to consider arranging a daily vessel sailing from Port Blair to Barren Island, mentioning that earlier when such an overnight sea journey was introduced to Barren Island, it received overwhelming response from visitors but later due to shortage of ships, the sailing was discontinued.
The Member of Parliament pointed out that by facilitating regular sailing to Barren Island’s active volcano, the tourism industry can reap substantial benefits and contribute to the overall growth of tourism in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. “While our islands already possess a myriad of attractions, witnessing an active volcano would undoubtedly be a milestone achievement for adventurous travelers, adding another feather to the cap of our esteemed tourism industry,” he added.
He highlighted that after the opening of the International Air Terminus at Port Blair, Islanders hope to get high value tourists, who would definitely like to take such adventurous journeys.
“Not only would this initiative provide an once-in-a-lifetime experience for visiting tourists, but it would also serve as a catalyst for the local tourism industry’s expansion. The economic advantages resulting from increased tourist activity can have a far-reaching positive impact on the livelihoods of the Islanders and the overall prosperity of Andaman and Nicobar Islands,” he added.
On completion of the visit, the Minister will depart for Chennai on June 26.
