Port Blair, June 19: Andaman Sheekha Daily has received several complaints regarding a LPG crisis in the Nancowry group of islands. Residents have reported a complete halt in the distribution of LPG cylinders in the areas of Katchal and Kamorta for the past two months, leading to immense inconvenience for the public.
Upon contacting an official from the LPG distributor, it was revealed that the delay in distribution was primarily caused by the unavailability of a cargo ship. Since April, the distributor has been consistently requesting space on a cargo ship to transport the cylinders. The transportation process has become a major challenge, and the non-availability of a cargo ship has exacerbated the situation.
However, the official assured Andaman Sheekha Daily that there are already 1500 LPG cylinders ready for dispatch, with 1000 allocated for Kamorta and 500 for Katchal. As per the latest update, a cargo ship is scheduled to arrive in Kamorta soon. The LPG cylinders will be loaded onto the ship on Monday, and the ship is expected to reach its destination on Wednesday morning. Once the cargo ship arrives, the distribution process will commence promptly.
The official also mentioned that on April 1st, 2023, a shipment of LPG cylinders was sent to Kamorta and Katchal, addressing the issue temporarily. However, the recent halt in distribution has caused significant distress among the residents, leading to a pressing need for immediate action.
Meanwhile the residents of Katchal and Kamorta have been eagerly awaiting for the arrival of the cargo ship, hoping that it will bring relief from the LPG crisis that has plagued their Islands for the past two months.
