Port Blair, June 19: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to construct a ‘Muktidham’ at Port Blair for which a site has been proposed by the member of Parliament in front of the Hornbill Nest Resort, Port Blair.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration the Member of Parliament mentioned that currently, most of the final rituals according to Hindu customs are carried out at Corbyn’s Cove Beach, which is a popular tourist hotspot in Port Blair. However, this arrangement often poses challenges for local residents who wish to perform the last rituals of their departed loved ones as the beach is a bustling tourist location.
He added that recognizing the need for a dedicated space where final rituals can be conducted as per Hindu customs, during the Smart City Planning meet he had proposed for the construction of a ‘Muktidham’ at Port Blair for which a site has been proposed by him in front of the Hornbill Nest Resort, Port Blair.
Considering the significance of this project and the need to address the concerns of the Islanders, he requested the Chief Secretary to examine the feasibility of constructing a ‘Muktidham’ in front of the Hornbill Nest Resort.
The Member of Parliament pointed out that a basic survey has already been conducted, and the designs have been finalized and it was also decided that the work will be executed through PBMC.
He added that by proceeding with this construction, the Administration can ensure that the people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands can carry out the final rituals of their departed souls in a dignified manner, free from any external interruptions.
