Car Nicobar, May 3: The District Administration Nicobar organzied a week long awareness campaign on low cost life & accidental insurance schemes of Government of India viz. Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY). The District Administration has a vision to secure the life of tribal and common people of Nicobar District from accidents by further improving insurance coverage in the District. For this, village level Awareness Camps were organized in each village community hall from April 21 to 27, 2023. Camps were organized by the District Administration in coordination with SBI, Canara Bank and Andaman Cooperative Bank.
In each village, around 120-150 people attended the camps. On the spot registration facility for insurance schemes were provided. In total, 103 on the spot registrations were done (28 for PMJJBY and 75 for PMSBY) during the camps. People were made aware about Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) schemes. They were also informed about how they can secure themselves from uncertain future with low cost annual premium of Rs. 436 for life cover under PMJJBY and Rs. 20 for accidental coverage under PMSBY. With annual premium of Rs. 456, they are able to get a coverage of Rs. 2 lakhs for accidental death and any disability due to accident. Annual premiums will be auto debited from their accounts linked with Aadhaar Card. The PMJJBY is available to people in the age group of 18 to 50 years while PMSBY is available to people in the age group 18 to 70 years.
After the completion of the camps, it has been noticed that people in good numbers are visiting the bank everyday to get themselves registered for the scheme. The District Administration has appealed to everyone to come forward and avail the benefits of the scheme by contacting their nearest bank branch.
