Port Blair, April 23: The residents of Jaipur, Swadesh Nagar, and Hari Nagar in the Middle Andaman district area are facing a water crisis due to leakages in the drinking water pipelines that have gone unattended for many years. This has resulted in the wastage of large quantities of water everyday, leading to a severe shortage of water supply in the region.
The Korang Nallah of Hari Nagar Panchayat supplies water to the population of over 12,000 people, but due to the dry season, water distribution has become challenging. The water is distributed through the APWD pipeline, which has been damaged for years, resulting in the leakage of a considerable amount of water.
A resident of Hari Nagar Panchayat stated that the leakage in the APWD pipeline is one of the primary reasons for the water problem in the area. In this dry season, residents are concerned that if the leakages are not fixed in time, the water crisis will worsen in the coming days.
Mr. Manojit Halder Pradhan of Harinagar Panchayat informed that these water pipelines were laid about 20 years ago, and the leakage in the pipeline is quite frequent. The pipelines require immediate attention to stop the wastage of water, which is causing a lot of problems in these scorching sunny days.
He alleged that the APWD has been informed of the issue several times, but due to funding problems, they have not been able to work efficiently, leading to frequent bursts and leakages in the pipeline.
The residents of the Middle Andaman district area are now hoping that the authorities will take immediate action to repair the pipeline and ensure a steady supply of water to the region before the situation worsens.
