Mayabunder, April 21: Residents of Mayabunder Tehsil in N&M Andaman have been left stranded due to the sudden suspension of boat services to Diglipur via Mayabunder. The boat services, which were provided to Diglipur via Mayabunder every alternate day, have been stopped since the second week of April. Despite repeated attempts to seek answers from the Shipping department, no voyage schedule has been published for the month of April.
The boat service has been a lifeline for the residents of Mayabunder, especially for patients and elderly people who travel to Port Blair. The condition of the Andaman Trunk Road is in a deplorable state, making it difficult for people to travel by road. The boat service has been the easiest and cheapest means of travel for people of all classes.
Mr. Abdul Siddique, Ex-Pramukh of Mayabunder, has been inundated with requests from residents of the region who want to know why the boat service has been suspended without any specific reason. Mr. Siddique has been advocating for a regular and continuous boat service to Mayabunder for the past two decades.
In a letter addressed to the Dy. Commissioner of N&M Andaman, Mr. Siddique has requested immediate intervention in the matter to resume boat services to Diglipur to and fro via Mayabunder. He also urged the Shipping department to ensure that the boat service is not cancelled for vague reasons and must be continued as before for the benefit of the people of Mayabunder.
The sudden suspension of the boat service has caused great inconvenience to the residents of Mayabunder, who are eagerly awaiting a response from the authorities. The residents are hopeful that their plea will be heard and that the boat service will be resumed soon.
It remains to be seen whether the authorities will take action on Siddique’s request and resume the boat service for the benefit of the people of Mayabunder.
