Port Blair, Mar 13: The Mental Well Being Committee, JNRM has organized a one day Awareness Programme on Mental Health and Well Being for College Students in JNRM on 13th April 2023.
During the inauguration the Chief Guest Dr. H.K.Sharma, Principal, JNRM underscored the importance of mental health among students for their future and wellbeing. The Mental Well Being Committee of JNRM is working for the student’s mental health and students are advised to contact for any assistance, headed.
Dr. Rajiv Ghosh, District Public Health Officer, DHS, South Andaman District described the mental health and quotient of happiness. Early identification, detection and intervention of mental health problems (stress/illness) are important and college students should play an important role in helping for self and for others. Dr. Rajiv Ghosh said that the Government of India has launched the National Tele Mental Health Programme (Tele MANAS) on 10th October 2022 to provide access to mental health care services to all through a centralized toll-free helpline.
Ms. Hemlatha, Psychologist, GB Pant Hospital informed the gathering that one should have the insights on self and know how to deal with stress. Like physical illness one should not hesitate to visit psychologists for mental health. The self insights will help us to assess our boundaries and through which stress and depression could be avoided, she said.
Dr. K. Venkatesan, HOD, Home science and Chairman, Mental Well Being Committee informed that the committee has been engaged in strengthening the capacity of students through counsellors to extend the support to them for their emotional and mental well-being, to help to deal with stress. Further extend help to students in dealing with academic, personal and career related issues, he said.
Mrs. Poonam Ajay Singh, Resource Person, Department of Home Science moderated the programme and briefed about the role of students in helping peer groups for mental health. Altogether 300 students took part in the programme.
