Port Blair, Dec 23: In a bizarre development today a patient was found crying and screaming with pain for nearly two hours at G B Pant Hospital and sadly there was no doctor to attend the patient.
A school boy, Rajesh (Name Changed) got his bones of left hand, dislocated while playing at around 4.00 pm. He was immediately brought to G B Pant Hospital for treatment but to the utter dismay of his parents, there was no doctor to attend the boy.
The patient was urged by the nurses in duty to bring X-Ray report but their disappointment there was nobody in the X-Ray room too, for carrying out X-Ray.
The patient, who was hardly 12 years old, was crying badly for help but staffs of G B Pant had only a few words for them “We have intimated Doctor and the X-Ray Technician. They will come soon.”
Finally, when parents of the injured boy called the Director of Health Services, Mr. S K Paul directly, after 6.15 pm a doctor reached the hospital and attended the patient. The X-Ray technician reached at around 6.05 pm. Throughout the incident, Andaman Sheekha reporter was present on the spot.
The matter does not end here, today early morning a college student was hit by a four wheeler and the injured college student was brought to hospital at 3.30 am. But the hospital authorities could carryout X-Ray only by 1.30 PM.
Even a child knows that in hospitals, delay of even 5 minutes can take a precious life but sadly the G B Pant management has forgotten this basic thing, and are focusing more on harassing patient by implementing new rules and regulations.
Such negligence must be considered as criminal offence and the Secretary of Health Services must order an inquiry regarding this issue. How can Islands’ main referral hospital go without a doctor for two hours?
Today, instead of the dislocation case, if a serious patient would have come to G B Pant, he would have certainly died, waiting for the doctor. This is high time for the Lt. Governor to conduct a surprise visit in G B Pant Hospital.
