Port Blair, Mar 10: ANTCC Campaign Committee Chairman Mr. TSG Bhasker on Thursday filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Calcutta High Court challenging the Union of India and Others in the matter of 100% job reservation for Islanders.
A divisional bench of Calcutta High Court comprising of Justice Mr. Abhijit Gangopadhay and Hon’ble Justice Aniruddha Roy will be conducting the first hearing on 13th March 2023 (Monday) at 10:30 am
The PIL also referred to the case of Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh where the government has decided to give local people 100% job reservation in public appointments.
Mr. TSG Bhasker has expressed his faith in the High Court that the court will issue verdict in favor of Island youths considering the fact of limited education opportunities, geographical isolation, higher cost of living and limited resources available for any another job.
As per the information for the recently advertised 500+ Group C posts, large number of applicants (Non Locals) from across India have applied for the same and passed in the examination. This has created lots of displeasure and unrest amongst the local unemployed youths, political parties and public.
Mr. Bhasker suggested that all vacant post should be advertised in local media/ newspapers only and that the A&N Administration’s employment registration number must be asked for applying for a job.
