Port Blair, Mar 07: The GB Pant Hospital in Andaman and Nicobar was hit with protests this morning after the death of a 6-year-old boy, AriyanTigga. The boy had sustained grievous injuries in an accident near Grand Oceanus resort in Kodiaghat on Saturday late afternoon.
After receiving initial treatment at Garacharma Hospital, the boy was referred to GB Pant Hospital due to the unavailability of necessary equipment and specialists.
Upon arriving at GB Pant Hospital, the boy’s family members and members of Hindu Rashtra Sakthi (HRS) began asking questions against the hospital management and the Health Services. The HRS members alleged that the hospital lacked necessary lifesaving equipment and specialized doctors, and that this had led to the boy’s death.
The HRS team, headed by Angshuman Roy, Rajesh, and RakeshwarLall, helped the boy get a CT scan at Apollo Hospital, Port Blair. The scan revealed the exact problem, but due to the lack of necessary surgical equipment at GB Pant Hospital, the boy had to be referred to the mainland for further treatment. However, the family could not afford the expenses of transportation to the mainland, and the boy eventually died during treatment at GB Pant Hospital.
The boy’s mother accused the hospital of not providing proper care and treatment to her child, and also alleged that no action had been taken against the person who hit her child in the accident.
The family members and relatives staged a protest at GB Pant Hospital, demanding answers from the hospital management and the Health Services. The HRS team also raised several questions, including the timeline of the boy’s admission, the delay in getting a CT scan, and the lack of necessary surgical equipment and specialists at GB Pant Hospital.
The Medical Superintendent of GB Pant Hospital has not yet issued an official statement on the incident and also did not reply to phone calls made by the Andaman Sheekha team for more clarity on this issue. Further details are awaited.
