Port Blair, Feb 28: In the recent past, some incidents of fire broke out in the ANI which caused damage to properties. Considering the above, Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (Disaster Management) is requesting the residents of A&N Islands to adhere to Do’s & Don’ts on Fire safety to mitigate the impact of Fire and save their precious lives and properties.
“What to do and what not to do in case of fire?”
First of all, do not panic because it gets worse in panic. Be patient and immediately contact the Fire Service number 101. Along with this, people should also start trying to control the fire by yourself. While calling the police and fire department, state your location properly so that they do not take much time to find the place. During this people can also tell any landmark. If the path of the stairs is clear, then regardless of the baggage, get out immediately and protect yourself first. If the windows and doors of the building can be opened, then open them so that the smoke does not suffocate inside. If any fire extinguisher is installed in the building, then immediately try to use it to extinguish the fire. Keep the gas cylinder away from the place of fire and also turn off the electrical switch. During this, try to attract people’s attention to yourself for help by making noise or throwing something down. If you are trapped in the office of a commercial building, then do not use the lift at all to escape from the fire. If there is an elderly, child or pregnant woman in the house, then first of all take them to a safe place because in such accidents their lives are often at the highest risk. Most of the fire incidents occur due to short circuits. To avoid this, keep every electrical system tidy. Use a gas stove with caution. Do not forget to turn off the knob of the regulator while sleeping at night.
