Port Blair, Feb 23: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands to fill up the posts earmarked/reserved for appointments on compassionate grounds as per rules.
Highlighting about the issue of unfilled posts earmarked for appointments on compassionate grounds in various departments under A&N Administration, in his letter addressed to the Lt. Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the Member of Parliament mentioned that he has been approached by a large number of people, including widows and children, who have lost their father, husband or mother while in service, and have applied for jobs on compassionate grounds against the 5% of posts earmarked for them under the Government of India orders, which are not filled since many years.
He added that this has led to many youths, widows, and others waiting for jobs under this category, facing a lot of challenges in their daily lives. These reserved posts mean a lot to them.
He mentioned that in the current recruitment drives carried out by different departments for other categories of posts such as General, OBC, ST, EWS, etc., there is no mention of the posts reserved for the compassionate grounds category. As a result, youths/widows belonging to this category are not getting employment against the quota earmarked for them within their age limit, and the posts are lying vacant.
The Member of Parliament urged the Lt. Governor to issue necessary directions to all departments to fill up the posts earmarked/reserved for appointments on compassionate grounds as per rules, at the earliest possible.
