Port Blair, Feb 22: Mock Drill on Fire Incident conducted in the Sea Shell Resort, Marine Hill, Port Blair on 22.02.2023 by the Directorate of Disaster Management in coordination with A&N Police, A&N Police Fire Services, Directorate of Health Services and NDRF by creating real time fire simulation scenarios and tested the preparedness level of the resort and response of all Emergency Support Functionaries (ESFs) on safe evacuation, search & rescue and fire extinguish operations, first aid along with medical support to manage the fire incident scenario in the resort.
Dr. Nitin Shakya, Director (DM), A&N Administration has monitored all activities of the Mock Drill along with Mr. Sunny Gupta, IPS, SDPO (S/A), Mr. TKS Ajayan, Mr. Gyan Singh, Mr. Janik Ram, Asst. Directors and Dr. Swapan Kumar Biswas, Sr. Consultant, DDM.
Immediately on the receipt of information of Fire Incident at the reception of the Resort, the receptionist informed the same to the Manager and subsequently, informed to SEOC, DEOC, Fire, Ambulance etc. Meanwhile the various teams of Resort have been activated to dowsing the fire, emergency evacuation of guests and staff, search & rescue and medical response team search the resort and found 03 staff members trapped in a Resort room and safely rescued from the Resort and handed over to medical team for further treatment and hospitalization. Guests and other staffs have been moved to identify assembly/safe area. The Fire Service reached the incident spot with fire tender along with a team and controlled the fire. The NDRF team searched the entire hotel and rescued two more staff members trapped in third floor of the building and shifted them to G.B. Pant Hospital with the help of Health department and ambulances. The Police team cordon off the entire area and control the traffic movement.
The Mock Drill was called off at 1200 Hrs. followed by a debriefing session wherein the observers of the Mock Drill had explained the findings and gaps of the Mock Drill. The Director (DM) appreciated the efforts of the Resort Management and other Stakeholders for their active participation in the Mock Drill. He also urged Resort Management to regularly check all the fire extinguishers and safety equipment, update their SOP, emergency contact details and provide DM training to resort personnel for their capacity building to cope up any crisis in future.
