Port Blair, Feb 08: A fire was reported from one of the Temporary office structures of AAI constructed near the New Airport Building of Veer Savarkar International Airport at 09:30 AM today. Workers and nearby individuals noticed thick smoke coming from the room of the Airport Authority and immediately informed the Fire Control Room.
Fire tenders reached the location swiftly and managed to control the fire within 30 minutes. Despite the efforts of the fire department, the shortage of firemen was noticeable during the fire-fighting process. According to reports, all the system computers and other valuable items were gutted completely, causing damage worth lakhs.
The cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit, but further investigations are ongoing.
Thanks to the timely intervention of the firefighters, the fire was contained and did not spread to nearby rooms. This incident highlights the importance of prompt action in emergency situations and the need for adequate resources to handle such incidents.
