Port Blair, Feb 06: The students of the Andaman and Nicobar College of Education (ANCOL) in Port Blair are facing difficulties due to the absence of direct bus services from their college hostel in Haddo to the college campus. Before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020, the STS Unit of Aberdeen used to provide a bus service for girl students to safely travel from their hostel to the campus and back.
According to some students, the transportation department used to provide bus services to accommodate the safety and security of the students, who often traveled in large numbers during peak hours. However, the service has not been resumed even after the Covid-19 situation has become more manageable.
The Andaman Sheekha newspaper spoke to a senior officer of the Department of Higher Education, who stated that they have not received any written demand or information regarding the matter. The officer added that they will request their higher officials to start the bus services in the interest of the safety and security of the students.
The absence of direct bus services has resulted in students having to take multiple buses to reach the college, causing inconvenience and affecting their daily routine. The students hope that the issue will be resolved soon and the bus services will be resumed for their convenience.
