Port Blair, Dec 18: To inculcate sense of adventure, camaraderie and to educate troops on importance of environmental conservation & life skills a five day (11-15 Dec 12) adventure expedition to SADDLE PEAK was flagged off here under the aegis of Army Component. A team of one officer, one JCO and 12 other ranks participated in the said expedition which hoisted the tri-colour on the highest Peak in Andaman & Nicobar Group of Islands on 13 Dec 12. The expedition team from the Army Component which as made it a tradition over the years to lead such like adventure activities in the Islands, boats off mountaineers who have already scaled heights in High Altitude Area.
The expedition was flagged off on 10th Dec 12 from Birchgunj Military Station and was carried out in three stages. The first and the third stage primarily involved movement in army vehicles along the ATR from Port Blair to Diglipur & back. The second stage involved trekking upto the highest point on the Saddle Peak to include the physical mapping of entire feature extending upto 26 km. The expedition team was flagged in on 15 Dec 12 by Colonel Jasbir Singh, Deputy Commander, Birchgunj Military Station which coincided with the Raising Day.
