Port Blair, Dec 18: Mr. K.N.Suresh, Prabhari, National Investors Cell, B.J.P. South India in a letter addressed to the Lt. Governor, A & N Islands expressed anguish over the closure of the “Green Shops” which opened as a pilot project to regulate the prices of the vegetables and fruits and also provide remunerative prices to the farming fraternity by the then Chairman of ANIIDCO and the Chief Secretary Late Pandmanbhanji.
He also expressed grief that ANIDCO has closed the “Green Shop” at Dilanipur and done beautification and opened “Self Servicing Wine Shop” completely forgetting their primary responsibility and commitment of public welfare.
He requested the Lt. Governor to revive the “Green Shops” at the earliest to ensure remunerative rates for the farming community and distribute the vegetables and fruits through their outlets with minimum margins so that the customers get all the products at reasonable price. The Presence of Green Shops regulates the prices of the essential items also.
