
Port Blair, Jan. 17: The media fraternity here has expressed their sincere gratitude to the Chief Secretary, Mr. Kashav Chandra for allotment of the media room to the media persons. At a simple function on Tuesday, the Chief Editor, The Andaman Express (Hindi) and Municipal Councillor, Ward No-8, Smt Laxmi Ganeshan inaugurated the media room at Directorate of Information Publicity & Tourism.
The media room was allotted to the local Journalists during the period of former Lt Governor, Late I. P Gupta. However, during the period of Covid-19, the room was taken back by the IP&T department for performing Covid-19 related activities.
For a long time, the media persons have been requesting authorities in the IP&T to provide the media room to local Journalists so that they can organize meetings and discuss various media related activities. Finally, a media team met the Chief Secretary, Mr. Keshav Chandra and requested him for allotment of the media room to the local Journalists.
The Chief Secretary immediately directed the Secretary (IP&T) for allotment of the media room to the media persons within a period of 5 days. As per the direction of the Chief Secretary, the media room was handed over to the local media persons. Sharing his thoughts, the Chief Editor, The Andaman Express, Mr. K Ganeshan also expressed gratitude to the Chief Secretary. He also expressed his gratitude to the Secretary, IP&T and Director (IP&T) for their cooperation and support to the local media here.
Mr. Ganeshan underscored the need for greater interaction between government departments and media so that achievements of various government departments can be disseminated through the media.
Mr. Ganeshan informed that earlier the media room was provided with facilities like TV, Internet and computer for the use of Journalists. He informed that he will take up these issues with the IP&T authorities. Mr. Vijay Kumar Roy, Editor-in-Chief, The Echo of India and Mr. Yadagiri, General Secretary, A&N Media Federation also spoke on the occasion.
