Port Blair, 28 Dec: People of Shaheed Dweep areas witnessed a nearly six-hour long power cut today from 09:00 AM to 03:00 PM causing huge inconvenience to the general public as well as visiting tourists. Few weeks back there was a serious power crisis in the Islands, which was addressed recently and after today’s power cut people of the Island found themselves helpless as most of the people had no idea why they are witnessing such a long power cut.
Travel Agents of Shaheed Dweep have expressed serious concern over the long power outages in islands causing immense problems to the hospitality sector as several hour power cuts are becoming a common issue at Shaheed Dweep.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily contacted a senior officer of the Electricity Department in this issue, he said that yesterday a fault of oil leakage was identified in 800KVA Power Transformer and repair was extremely essential as that couldhave resulted in a fire accident.
He added that today technicians were sent to Shaheed Dweep from Port Blair and after reaching the Island, the technicians immediately began repair works and by evening the problem was rectified.
Mr. Kajal Das, Mondal President BJP told Andaman Sheekha the Electricity Department took quick action and the fault in the transformer was rectified and power was restored by 3.00 PM. He urged the Administration to take concrete steps to ensure that the Shaheed Dweep does not witness such power crisis or long power cuts again as it is causing loss to Tourism Business of the Island.
