Port Blair, Nov 11: The former Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration JitendreaNarain, a suspended senior IAS officer of AGMUT Cadre, was sent to Police Remand for three days by the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate days for further course of investigation this afternoon at Port Blair.
Narain was arrested on Thursday after his bail plea was rejected by court at Port Blair. On Thursday he was kept at Police Station Aberdeen, Port Blair after medical examination and was produced to CJM court this afternoon.
Earlier, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), on 17 October 2022 placed Jitendra Narain under suspension with immediate effect.
As per a government release, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had received a report on 16.10.2022 from Andaman & Nicobar Police regarding the alleged sexual assault of a lady by Jitendra Narain, IAS (AGMUT:1990), the then Chief Secretary, Andaman & Nicobar Islands and others.
The release added that as the Report indicated the possibility of grave misconduct and misuse of official position on the part of Jitendra Narain, IAS (AGMUT:1990), the Union Home Minister directed to take immediate strict action against the officer concerned as per law.
Earlier on October 27 Jitender Narain, former Chief Secretary Andaman and Nicobar Administration had reached Port Blair from Delhi following a Calcutta High Court order to appear before a Special Investigation Team, which is probing alleged gangrape charges against him.
