Port Blair, Oct 14: Mr. Rayhaan Pasha, President of Nicobar Youth Association had requested the Chief Secretary through email that a similar policy like Union Territory of Ladakh Employment (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules, 2021 for the tribal people of Andaman and Nicobar Islands that leads to complete job reservation for all in Class III and Class IV jobs. He strongly believe that such employment reservations will catalyze rapid and significant growth of the tribal population by ensuring basic income for their families. The members of the tribal community appreciate the bold decision of the Govt. of India to form the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh. Most importantly, the community strongly believes that the exclusive reservation of jobs for locals under Union Territory of Ladakh Employment (Subordinate) Service Recruitment Rules, 2021 is particularly life changing for the people of Ladakh. Inspired by actions taken for the local of Ladakh, Rayhaan Pasha had humbly requested the kind attention of A & N administration towards bringing necessary policy changes that allow for complete job reservation for tribal people living in tribal reserve area in all Class III and Class IV jobs. As all are aware, the archipelago of Andaman and Nicobar Islands is a group of scattered Islands and suffers from many logistical and topographical challenges. The islands are separated by the sea and scattered over a stretch of 1000 km. This peculiar geographical situation makes it very difficult for the local tribal youth to build a prospering livelihood despite their enduring and persistent attitude. Enduring several difficulties and with their strenuous efforts, a large sect of the tribal population has succeeded in getting trained as teachers, midwives, nurses, doctors, and other professionals. Regardless of being professionally trained, they are awaiting suitable appointments by the Administration to make a decent living. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has added to the already existing challenges in the lives of these marginalized communities, making their dreams of decent livelihood a distant reality. He humbly requested the Chief Secretary to kindly process their request on a priority basis and thereby eradicate the financial hardships the tribes of Andaman and Nicobar Islands are facing due to employment scarcity. He further finally, on behalf of the entire tribal community express deepest gratitude and support for the governance of UT Govt A& N Islands and hope that their request is considered at the earliest convenience.
