Port Blair, Oct 12: Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Secretary (Health), Andaman & Nicobar Administration inaugurated the Three Days Regional Training Cum Review Workshop from 12th – 14th October 2022 as Chief Guest by lamp lighting ceremony on the Supply Chain Management System (SCM) of commodities of National AIDS Control Programme (NACP).
Dr.Munni Singhania, Directorate of Health Services, Andaman & Nicobar Administration also graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Project Director’s, Asst. Project Directors and Directors representing various states of southern zone also graced the occasion.
A total of 45 participants from NACO and SACS are attending the workshop. The participants are representatives of Supply Chain Management Project of State AIDS Control Societies from Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.
The workshop is being conducted at the conference hall of Hotel Lemon Tree, Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Secretary (Health) A & N Administration graced the occasion as Chief Guest and warmly welcomed the participants to the beautiful Island of A & N Islands. Addressing the participants and the organisers he said that it becomes very important to deliver the right information to the society and deal with the problem in an effective manner. The role of NACO has been important in dealing with the problems of HIV&AIDS. It is important to have regional level workshops so that state-specific issues can be dealt in an effective manner considering the local and regional aspects. He congratulated Plan India and NACO team for conducting the Three Days Regional Training Cum Review Workshop on the Supply Chain Management System (SCM) for NACP commodities.
Dr. Anoop Kumar Puri, DDG, NACO through the virtual platform addressed the participants to utilise this opportunity and gain the knowledge from of experienced resource team and ensure the availability of commodity at each level overcoming the challenges. Now, it has become important to have a dedicated team for managing the Supply Chain Management System.
Other officials who addressed the participants were Dr.Saiprasad Bhavsar, Deputy Director, PMR & SCM, NACO, Dr. Naresh Goel, DDG NACO (Retd.) and Dr. Rajesh Rana, Director, Plan International (India chapter).

The Supply chain Management project of National AIDS Control Organization (NACO) is being implemented by Plan International (India Chapter).
Also the Objective of the workshop is to build up the capacity of the officials engaged in the supply chain management of the commodities for implementation of the National AIDS Control Program (NACP) across the country.
This workshop will enhance technical capacity of the participants to design, manage and monitor supply chain for increased access of high-quality ARV drugs, testing kits across India.
The workshop will be followed by the review and the discussion on the, challenges and areas of improvement for the supply chain management across the country.
Thirty-five years since the detection of the first case of HIV in 1986, the National AIDS Control Programme (NACP) in India has evolved as one of the world’s largest programmes across the prevention-detection- treatment continuum through five-different phases and now it is in its Phase V. Every phase had its own significant achievements.
NACO under the Supply Chain Management (SCM) project had ensured the timely supply of drugs, testing kits and other commodities required for the successful implementation of NACP throughout the country.
Organizing this workshop in a zone-wise manner will ensure active participation of all states and every state will be able to come forward with the area-wise problems faced by them in the supply chain management of commodities.
