Campbell Bay, Sept 27: A fire incident took place in RPRS shelter colony of Campbell Bay in morning hours. The situation became serious after the blast of a LPG Cylinder.
Immediately the fire brigade team rushed to the location following information.
The fire was so intense that local police and fire department had to put a lot of efforts to control the fire and crowd. As per the public, the team of firefighters, consisted of 6 firemen,Police Personnel, IRBn Jawan, DSP Ardhdeep Singh Panwar, Sub. Inspector Gaurav Banerjee Police Inspector and ASI DN Mishra in charge Fire Station Campbell Bay and Team.
When the Assistant Commissioner Campbell Bay Dr Nitin Shakya reached the spot, suddenly a second blast occurred and fire spread more, injuring some of the rescuers.
Immediately all the residents were moved away from the fire location so as to prevent further casualties as more cylinders were inside, it is reported.
Taking note of the spread of fire to adjacent houses, the Assistant Commissioner immediately a arranged fire tanker from INS BAAZ and an extra rescue force from Army.
Officers from Indian coast guards were also spotted actively managing the spread of fire.At around 01:50 PM the fire was brought under total control.
Three persons were injured two of whom are from fire department, Mr. Muniaswamyand Mr. Danial William and are under medical care at PHC Campbell Bay, One officer from police, Mr. Sandeep Singh was also injured with head injury and after immediate medical aid was airlifted by Indian Air Force Dornier aircraft to Port Blair.
In this fire incident two houses were completely gutted.
The family members of the burnt house were temporarily shifted the to panchayat guest house and will be shifted to another shelter home soon.
Panchayat Pradhan and other local residents have arranged for food and other facilities for the affected families.
Assistant Commissioner has ordered for immediate compensation to the victims loss as per rules . Effective and timely management of such incidents helped in controlling the spread of fire.
This was first of its own kind of management whereby all the different services worked hand in hands to manage the fire incidence and to save lives.
