Port Blair, Sep 18: As part of nationwide “Puneet Sagar Abhiyaan”, International Coastal Cleaning Day was observed at A&N Islands. Cadets of Army and Naval NCC Units participated in an awareness programme to clean Sea shores and beaches by removing plastics and non-degradable wastes.
The programme was conducted on several beaches across the Islands. The cadets cleaned beaches in Port Blair, Campbell Bay, Hut Bay, Diglipur, Mayabunder, Rangat, and Shaheed Dweep. The programme was conducted under the supervision of Lt Col Pankaj Modgil, Commanding Officer 1(AN) INDEP Inf Coy. The cadets interacted with the local population to educate them about the harmful effects of plastics on marine life and the island ecosystem.
Around 500 NCC Cadets participated in the event with zeal and enthusiasm and they collected approx 200 kg of plastic and waste materials which were deposited with PBMC and other Municipal corporations for re-cycle. PI Staff from both Army and Navy NCC units were present along with the ANO/CT and staff from respective colleges/schools.
