Port Blair, Sept 18: Due to heavy rain for the entire morning of 18th September 2022, a large area of Billyground, Pinakinagar and Shantipur village witnessed flood like situation also most of the village roads were closed for several hours. Many low lying areas were inundated in rainwater while in many places people had to flee from home.
According to officials, villages of Tugapur 6,7 & 8 also witnessed a similar situation.
It was reported that a total of 13 families, 11 from Pinakinagar and 02 families from Shantipur villages were stuck in their homes when the entire area was inundated in water due to heavy rain.
When the incident was reported to PS Billyground, immediately the Police team of PS Billyground under the supervision of SHO Madhab Halder swung into action and rescued all the people in distress.
According to the reports, two Police rescue teams of PS Billyground were successful in rescuing around 20 people, including children, women and old age people.
Other than this several villagers were also shifted to risk-free zones and were provided with shelter and food.
As per details, PRI members of the area and also some local youths came forward to help stranded people.
When contacted Mr. C.S Pillai Tehsildar/Executive Magistrate of Mayabunder told Andaman Sheekha Daily that a good number of people have been evacuated to safe places, district administration has provided shelter and food for the affected people in schools.
