Port Blair, Sept 18: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has demanded atleast three sailings of ships between Port Blair and Diglipur during Durga Puja Festival, so that Islanders can comfortably travel between North and Middle Andaman and Port Blair.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament mentioned that during his recent visit to the North Andaman region, he was approached by a large number of residents of Diglipur region, who have informed him that they are facing huge difficulties in travelling through NH4 due to the present road conditions.
The Member of Parliament mentioned that as the festival season is coming, thousands of residents of Andaman and Nicobar Islands will travel through Andaman Trunk Road to reach North and Middle Andaman from Port Blair and vice versa.
He added that a large number of people from the Bengali community live in South as well as North and Middle Andaman region who need to travel between Port Blair and N& M Andaman.
He pointed out that considering the ongoing rainy season movement of such a large number of people through NH4 is not safe and also such a journey will be too painful for ATR commuters, especially old age people, women and children.
