Port Blair, Sept 16: Nearly 23 students of Government Model Senior Secondary School were admitted in G B Pant Hospital while a few others were discharged after observation today, when these students complained about Stomach Ache & Nausea during school hours.
Although it is still now clear what had actually triggered the symptoms, but largely it is suspected that students developed these symptoms after consuming Deworming tablets given to them in the school, an official in the Health Department said. “We have taken samples and only after proper tests we can confirm the reason,” he added.
Among 23 students, who were admitted in hospital, nearly 4 were boys.
Shifting a large number of students to G B Pant triggered a panic wave among the Islanders. Large number of fuming parents, gathered at G B Pant, could be seen raising voices against school authority and administration for not informing parents ever after shifting their kids to G B Pant Hospital.
As per details a few students who left for home were brought to G B Pant by their parents after those students also reported similar symptoms at home.
A senior officer in the Health Department told Andaman Sheekha Daily that the situation is under total control and this type of symptoms are commonly considered as Psychosomatic disorder.
Sources said that after all check ups some students with minor symptoms were discharged soon after observation while others were admitted for observation.
Meanwhile, it is reported that mid-day meals, Deworming tablets and water samples have been collected from the school for lab testing and only after the tests the actual reason will become clear.
