Port Blair, Dec 05: The Chief Electoral Officer, Jalaj Shrivastava launched the online registration facility for the voters of these islands at Port Blair this evening.
Interacting with the leaders of different political parties on this occasion, he called upon them to extend their cooperation to intensify the drive to optimize the enrollment of new voters in the electoral roll of the islands.
Briefing on the online voters registration system, he said the eligible persons can file claims, objections, transposition and correction through online by logging on the websites ceoan.and.nic.in or as1.nic.in. Those who intend to use this facility are required to register with their mobile number to get their unique user id and pass word through SMS in their mobile phones. For the enrollment in the electoral list, they have to upload their scanned photograph and the documents showing date of birth and proof of residence in the website.
He said with the launching of the facility, any eligible person can file claims, objections etc. from any part of the country by submitting valid documents through online. However, the claims for inclusion in the electoral roll will be processed only after the final publication of Electoral rolls on 15th January, 2012.
Expressing concern over the poor response to the special campaigns for the enrollment of new voters who attained 18 years of age, he said against the target of 7 per cent, only 0.5 % new voters have been enrolled so far. He called upon the political parties to appoint their Booth Level Assistants (BLA) for all 369 polling booths in the region and intimate the same to the Electoral wing latest by 31st of this month.
He also informed that special awareness drive for the enrollment of eligible voters will be conducted during the Bharat Nirman Public Information Campaign to held in Little Andaman this month.
Responding to a query by a leader of a political party regarding non availability of internet facility for the ordinary citizens, he said they can approach the nearby Common Service Centres (CSC) to avail the facility. He also acceded to the demand by the political parties to offer the services free of cost at the CSCs. (PIB)
