Port Blair, Sep 15: The protesting students of DBRAIT have finally ended their month-long agitation against the College administration after receiving assurances from the Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University to resolve all the issues of the B.tech students.
Earlier in the afternoon of 14th September 2022 the DBRAIT students along with several parents and the ABVP members had organized a protest Infront of the Secretariat and demanded to fulfil all the conditions of Pondicherry University by DBRAIT.
Around 150 students were present during the strike with the constant support of ABVP members. Members of several other organizations like Mr. M P Abdul Rasheed, Director, Ration Rasheed Foundation, Mr. D. Ayyappan, Secretary, CPI(M), Mr. Rakesh Pal Govind, President, Local Born Association and Mr. Abdul Siddique, General Secretary, Andaman MOPLAH Service Organization and members of BJP who came forward to support the students.
Today afternoon the student representatives were called by Mr. Nikhil Kumar, IAS, Principal Secretary, Education and who assured to resolve the issues but the students were not fully satisfied and continued the protest.
Later, in the evening Dr. Poonam Arora, Former Chairperson, A&N Social Welfare Advisory Board with BJP delegation met the student and during the interaction, she connected the phone call to the Vice Chancellor of Pondicherry University where the Vice Chancellor directly spoke with students and convinced them to call off the protest and gave assurance.
Dr. Poonam Arora who played a major role in ending this deadlock, thanked the Vice Chancellor of Pondicherrry university, Chief Secretary of ANI and all others for their active role.
Members of ABVP expressed their gratitude to the Vice Chancellor, Pondicherry University, A&N Administration and several other organizations for resolving the issues.
Mr. Siddhanth Rai Sharma said that the students have showcased a unity to fight for justice which will be for the betterment of the present and future students of the institution.
Mr. P. Sagar, President, ABVP unit of DBRAIT stated that they were assured 80% assured from the assurance from the meeting with Principal Secretary, Education and the students received the final 20% of the assurance when Dr. Poonam Arora called on the Vice Chancellor and a direct assurance was received by him.
Ms. Seema Kumari, State Secretary, ABVP appreciated the effort of Mr. P Sagar, President, ABVP unit of DBRAIT for encouraging the students to fight for justice and also thanked all the officials of A&N Administration and Vice Chancellor for resolving the issues.
