Port Blair, Sept 15: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to remove all old, discarded and unseaworthy small, medium and large boats from Phoenix Bay Jetty seashore area and surroundings as well as Junglighat Jetty area.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary, the Member of Parliament added that several dozens of old, discarded and unseaworthy small, medium and large boats are dumped along the Phoenix Bay Jetty seashore area and surroundings.
He added that similarly, a large number of such unseaworthy boats are also dumped near the Junglighat Jetty of Port Blair.
He pointed out that these boats are not only creating pollution in our coastal belt but also have become an eyesore for local residents and visiting tourists. These discarded boats and ruins are spoiling the beauty of our Islands, he added.
Considering this issue, the Member of Parliament requested the Chief Secretary to remove all these boats from our coastlines by conducting auctions so that this process also generates some revenue for the government.
