Port Blair, Sept 12: After PHC Chouldari, PHC Maglutan and PHC Tushnabad now patients of PHC Baratang have alleged that they are not getting food since the last nearly two weeks.
The General Public alleged that patients who are admitted to Hospital for treatment are now forced to buy food from outside but Baratang being a remote location even buying food from outside is not an easy option.
Members of Baratang Fiber boat Owners’ Association told Andaman Sheekha that recently they came to know that patients were not getting food in the hospital after which the association has decided to contribute food items for four to five days.
Meanwhile, the Zilla Parishad Member of Baratang Island, Mr. R Alager Swami has also raised this issue with the media and requested the Administration to intervene in this matter.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily contacted Mr. Arjun Sharma, IAS, Secretary Health, he informed that this is happening because of some issues in the tendering process.
He said that the tender wasalready allotted to a private company for providing food items, butdue to some confusion between the company and the Health Department, the company did not provide food items to PHC Baratang.
Mr. Arjun Sharma assured that the department has strictly directed the company to provide food items without any delay and as per information from tomorrow onward food supply will be started.
