Port Blair, Sep 12: The denizens of Kalighat, Nabagram and Ramnagar villages under Diglipur Tehsil led by the Pradhans and other PRI Members took out a rally on 08th September 2022 at Kalighat in wake of the non-fulfillment of their basic infrastructural demands.
As per the report, the Pradhans of the three Panchayats- Gram Panchayat Kalighat, Gram Panchayat Nabagram and Gram Panchayat Ramnagar had jointly submitted a representation in respect of the demands to the Assistant Commissioner, Diglipur early this month for their fulfilment and in failure of which, they would mount dharna/bandh/chakka jam on 08th September 2022 in Kalighat.
The demands raised in the letter were the reopening of EE (PRIs)Division Office at Diglipur, the early posting of 1 No. of Male Doctor (allopathy), Ward Sister 01, Staff Nurse- 03 nos. Statistical Assistant/Jr.Investigator, Watchman-01, Clerical Staff-01 no. Watchman 01 no. Sweeper-01 no. in, and also posting of staffs in Sub-Centre-II, Ramnagar.
Construction of RCC bridge on the Khari Nallah in between Kalighat and Nishchintapur village, Construction of road from Nabagram Cane Co. to Nishchintapur village via Madhyamgram village under PMGSY-II, re-start of STS bus service from Diglipur to Rangat via Ramnagar, repair and maintenance of road from Forest Check Post Mr. Makhan Halder House at Ramnagar village under PMGSY-II.
Permanent posting of Patawari at Kalighat and staying there, opening up of a mini–PetrolPumpat Kalighat, dredging in Kalighat Creek, immediate completion of PMGSY road from Kalighat Hari Mandir to Jagannathdera, opening up of tourism facility at Ramnagar seashore, establishing of Vivekananda Primary School at Ramnagar with school bus service.
The PRI Members also said that, on non-fulfilment of any of these basic infrastructural demands, they held the procession which started from Forest Office and proceeded to Police Station, Kalighat and culminated at Kalighat Bazaar. However, the Deputy Commissioner, N&M Andaman reportedly told the Pradhans and other PRI Members over phone not to hold any dharna on these demands and assured them of hearing their grievances shortly, the report further added.
