Port Blair, Sept 09: The Member of Parliament of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Shri. Kuldeep Rai Sharma has requested the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar Administration to organize Flea Market and similar events atleast twice a month on weekends in prominent Islands of Andaman and Nicobar Islands for the entertainment as well as amusement of Islanders and promotion of Tourism.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Secretary the Member of Parliament pointed out that before the pandemic people of South Andaman used to witness events like Flea Market on a regular basis, which were very professionally organized by the Andaman and Nicobar Administration.
He mentioned that these extremely popular events were great sources of entertainment and amusement for the people of South Andaman region, who often feel isolated due to remoteness from Mainland India. These events also used to attract a lot of visiting tourists.
He added that such events were also a source of income for various social groups and SHGs and a good platform for local artists to showcase their talent, who are hired for various events.
The Member of Parliament mentioned that Post Covid-19, very recently a series of events like beach festival, monsoon festival, music festivals etc were organised at various places of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which were thoroughly enjoyed by people of these Islands.
He added that such events are also largely enjoyed by visiting Tourists, which indirectly promote Tourism.
