Port Blair, Aug 24: The officials of Directorate of Shipping Services are expecting to complete the repair works of MV Nalanda by next two days. On 18 August new ship MV Nalanda reportedly hit Haddo Port’s RCC structure while berthing
at Gate no. 04 in Haddo Wharf. The impact was so hard that the new ship suffered minor damages and massive dents.
Talking to Andaman Sheekha Daily, a senior officer of DSS today said that the vessel is safe. He added that already a survey team has been constituted, consisting of officials from SCI and MMD. The team is carrying out survey works to inquire about the issue and DSS is hoping that within next two days the survey will be completed and report will be submitted, after which trials runs will be carried out to make sure such incidents do not occur again.
He said that once trial runs are over, after approval by the Administration the vessel will be inducted and the sailing program will be released.
