Port Blair, Jul 17: One of our greatest natural resources has become a garbage dump and the results are taking a toll on human and marine health. Tonnes of pollution end up on the beaches and coastal areas each year, and the majority of it comes from human activities along the coastlines and inland. Understanding the devastating effects of pollution on the beaches and oceans is the first step to fixing the problem.
In this regard to make some changes and to be aware, Yuva Bharat SamajSeva Charitable Trust (YBSSCT) organized a cleanliness drive in collaboration with Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC) on 17th July 2022 at Foreshore Beach, Near PS Chatham, Haddo.
In the drive, YBSSCT members and Naval NCC Cadets of JNRM college, collected 15 bags of garbage which includes solid waste, polythene bags, plastics bottles, junk food wrappers, etc, and proper disposal of the said waste was ensured with support from Port Blair Municipal Council from the sea shore.
Further, the members of Yuva Bharat SamajSeva Charitable Trust requested each member of the society that to not dump their garbage in nearby drains and open places. The dumped garbage in drains will go directly and indirectly to coasts and oceans.
There are easy everyday steps that one can take to help reduce this growing pollution in coastal areas. Using the dustbins and handing over the household collected and segregated waste to cleaning staff of your areas. Because some people can’t change the difference made by many. The beaches and coastal areas belong to human society the present generation and the generations that follow.
