Danapur, Mayabunder, Nov 30: Poor 3G network over Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has become a constant source of discomfort for BSNL 3G customers of Danapur area of Middle Andaman.
Public complain that since last 15 days the Danapur Tower is showing only 2G network and hence opening a single webpage has become impossible for internet users. Neither petty businessmen nor students are able to surf net for their works.
“Many complaints have been made through telephone regarding zero 3G network but everytime the response from the side of BSNL is same. They promise to rectify the fault tomorrow but their tomorrow never comes,” a fuming BSNL 3G customer told Andaman Sheekha over phone.
When Andamna Sheekha reporter contacted Mr. P. Thangavel, Deputy General Manager of BSNL, said that there are more than 5000 subscribers of BSNL 2G and 3G in Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
“There is a big scarcity of equipment’s in Port Blair because equipments are not readily available here and we have to arrange it from Kolkata.” Mr. Thangavel said.
According to the DGM as the BSNL is carrying out testing of new bandwidth the connectivity is little slow.
“Some experts from Kolkata are on a visit and they are working hard to improve the internet connectivity in the Islands. Broadband and 3G networks are under testing, within 2 months the broadband speed will be increased with 2mbps for rural public. In Port Blair also we are going to increase the speed,” he added.
Further, Mr. Thangavel added that only the undersea cable can satisfy the needs of the people of the Islands, which still looks like an distant dream.
