Port Blair, Nov 30: With an aim of spreading awareness about the Coastal Security, a cycle rally with the theme “Safe Coasts For A Prosperous Nation” was conducted by the Indian Coast Guard Station Hut Bay from Hut Bay to Vivekanandapur on 08 Nov 12. The rally was flagged of by the Station Commander Commandant IJ Singh from the Coast Guard premises. The rally, comprised of the officers and men of the station led by Surg Lt Kishore Kumar paddled 22 kms and enroute visited the fishing hamlets of Hut Bay, Netaji Nagar, Ramakrishnapur and finally Vivekanandapur.
The CG Personnel also visited the local Pradhans and impressed upon the local elected leaders to spread awareness about the Coastal Security at the grass root level. Explaining the vulnerability of these emerald islands and the need to have safe and secure coasts, the importance of the local islanders and the fishermen on passing information of suspicious movements in the first instance was also explained.
The rally arrived Ramakrishnapur at 1600 hrs where it was received by the Pramukh Little Andaman Mrs Namita Mistry in presence of the Station Commander ICGS Hut Bay. Thereafter, lectures pertaining to Coastal security were delivered to the local popoulace of the area. A total of 30 fishermen and 20 other populace attended the event at RK Pur.
The Pramukh later in her speech lauded the efforts of the Indian Coast Guard Station Hut Bay for ensuring safe and secure seas around Little Andaman. She reiterated the need for the fishermen to carry valid documents and be alert at all times and report any suspicious activity to the Indian Coast Guard.
Giving the example of the 26/11 incident and the recent attacks on the Indian soil by foreign agencies, the Station Commander of the Coast Guard Station Hut Bay, stressed the need for the fishermen to be extra vigilant and act as the EYES AND EARS while fishing and report any suspicious activity to the Coast Guard without delay. The Search and Rescue (SAR) and Coastal security TOLL FREE no (1554 and 1093 respectively) was also told to the attendees. He later thanked the Pramukh, PRI members and all participants for gracing the occasion.
