
Port Blair, June 27: Mr.Kuldeep Rai Sharma the Member Parliament, A&N Islands inaugurated a manufacturing unit of sanitary napkin Pad under the scheme “MY PAD MY RIGHT” launched by NABARD in the premises of Andaman & Nicobar State Cooperative Union, Teylerabad yesterday in the presence of Mr.Manoj.H General Manager, NABARD, Port Blair, other distinguished guests and a large number of women assembled.
While speaking in the function as Chief Guest complemented NABARD for sanctioning a much needed project to A&N State Cooperative Bank for the benefits of rural ladies, SHG members. Further he said women in rural areas can take advantage of this project.
Mr.Kuldeep Rai Sharma initiated his speech by first appreciating NABARD initiative to aim towards the hygiene and health of common women in our islands especially those in the rural and slum areas.
He emphasized more on the very basic purpose of using a sanitary pad. He said a pad for women is a necessity to keep themselves healthy and hygienic by educating themselves from the old traditional ways to a pad, by doing so they can avoid many serious health issues. A pad can not only save a woman but it can also save her family because we all know that ladies are the main pillars of the family.
He said that thrust should be to reach each and every girl and ladies of these islands and educate them for this purpose.
He also said that NGOs, Civil Societies and prominent citizens should come forward and distribute free sanitary pads in rural and slum areas so that more and more awareness can be done in ladies.
He also stated that more of this type of training unit of sanitary pad should be opened in other islands. He said that if opening one such manufacturing unit at one location today, can help so many unemployed women to be trained and to earn, more initiatives like this in other locations over the coming days can be a blessing to the countless women of these islands.
He also spoke about keeping the environment clean while addressing the huge gathering of women present as he emphasized on the proper disposal system of the sanitary napkins.
Mr. Manoj H, General Manager NABARD lauded the efforts of A&N State Cooperative Bank for setting up of this unit under the leadership of Hon’ble Member of Parliament. He said the unit launched today is one among 12 units launched in India by NABARD. He offered further support for strengthening the manufacturing unit and offered all possible support for marketing the products to be made by the unit.
Smti. Prameela, Adhyaksha, ZillaParishad, South Andaman also attended the function. Others who spoke on the occasion include Ms. Mariyam Bibi, Ex- Chairperson ZillaParishad, Ms. Zubaida, Ex-Chairperson, PBMC; MS. Anuradha Lal, Chairman, Green City.

In his, welcome addresses Mr. Suresh Babu, Principal, RGCTC said that the launching of this Project has become possible because of the effort, support and encouragement given by Mr.Kuldeep Rai Sharma, Member of Parliament.
The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Ms. Puspa Rani, Senior Manager, and A & N State Cooperative bank Ltd.
