Port Blair, Jun 21: Residents and motorists of Uttara village at Kadamtala are encountering immense difficulty for several months due to the miserable road condition between Uttara Main Road and the East Corner Jetty area.
Adding to the misery, heavy rain has made the road an accident-prone area. The general public has alleged that it seems to be concerned over the suffering of the villagers especially, the problems faced by pregnant ladies, senior citizens, and children are immense due to no easy movement of vehicles from this road.
Recently, the Pradhan of GP Uttara and Mr. Jagmaya, Sarpanch and Mr. Mandhar, Ward Member collectively tried to work on repairing the pothole using Gram Panchayat funds. They have also continuously requested the APWD department to start road construction immediately.
When Andaman Sheekha Daily contacted a senior officer of APWD, it was informed that the construction work of the road from Uttara main road to the east corner of Uttara jetty has already commenced, but due to some reasons, the contractor has halted the work after the material was dumped in the area. The officer also said that due to the untimely rain people are facing huge problems in the village.
“We are aware of the problem and because of the work delay, we have already given a notice to the contractor to begin the work immediately. If the contractor doesn’t comply with the orders in a given time period, then a firm action will be taken against the company”, the officer added.
