Port Blair, Apr 18: People in and around the Kadamtala region have been grappling with low-voltage problems and suffering heavily for months.
It is learnt that the residents of Kadamtala are unable to properly operate electronic appliances at home and motors for agriculture and other purposes due to low voltage issues.
Many residents allege that due to low voltage electrical appliances are getting frequently damaged in Kadamtala area.
Mr. Subrata Basu, Zilla Parishad member of Kadamtala region alleged that at present the region gets electricity from two powerhouses of North and Middle Andaman District, in the evening Kadamtala region is supplied electricity from Baratang powerhouse and during morning hours Rangat powerhouse provide power to Kadamtala area.
According to Mr. Subrata Basu, in morning hours the residents of Kadamtala mostly witness low-voltage problems.
When contacted a senior officer of the Electricity Department who does not want his name quoted told Andaman Sheekha Daily that they are trying to improve the low voltage issue in the region. He pointed out that the Rangat powerhouse is situated nearly 86KM from Kadamtala which is the main reason behind the low voltage issue.
He added that since a long time there is a proposal to supply power to Kadamtala region from Baratang power house, even in day time but as the Baratang Power house is not performing satisfactorily for fuel and other issues, the Kadamtala region is still getting power from Rangat Power house in day time and due to distance there is a low voltage issue.
