Port Blair, Apr 08: Botanical Survey of India Andaman and Nicobar Regional Centre, Port Blair organized the campaign to avoid the use of single-use plastic at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 1 on 08th April 2022.
The campaign was inaugurated by Dr. LalJi Singh, Joint Director and Head. Principal of K.V. No. 1 & No. 2, teachers and over 100 students and all the Scientists, officers and staff of the regional centre of BSI actively participated.
During this occasion, Dr. Singh emphasized the sustainable use of natural and reusable products. Keeping a view of socio-economy and in terms of ecological balance preventing environmental degradation, an invention of re-usable eco-friendly drinking straw made by Scientists of BSI from bamboo attracts great attention during this campaign.
Dr. Singh stated that the straw is not only eco-friendly but also reusable and has great export potential and is taken up by the progressive farmers for their economic wellbeing. It was registered with the Govt. of India for grant of a patent by the Botanical Survey of India.
In the concluding event, all the participants took a pledge (Swachh Bharat Harit Bharat Green Pledge) to avoid the use of single-use plastic and make a plastic-free India and also to preserve the ecological balance.
